The Fashion Revolution – The Beginnings of the Mini Skirt

The “mini-skirt” is a new fashion term starting with the 60s – a decade of revolution and important changes, also in the style of women. In the mid 18th century, women were considered vulnerable and under no circumstances were allowed to wear feminine clothes.

After World War II, Christian Dior was one of the first designers creating the mini-skirt. Before the 60s, young women had to wear similar clothes with their mothers’,that is, loose skirts and dresses so that they do not stand out. That was also the time when youngsters began the revolution where they wanted to make everybody aware of their self-consciousness and role in the society. André Courrèges is considered “The Lord of the Miniskirt”. Immediately after the mini skirt started being worn by women of all ages, they started accessorize them with zip-up knee high boots made of stretch vinyl or tights and pantyhose, which replaced awkward nylon stockings and became fashion statements in their own right.

Women Retro Life During 50s

I have recently read on a blog dedicated to vintage life during the 19th century how life looked like for women during the 50s. It was fascinating to read how women considered life values and moral principles. If we make a comparison with the life we are living nowadays, times are completely different – different cultures, different beliefs and different ways of thinking. Back during mid 19th century, women used to stay at home and raise their children so that they can be proud of them when they grow up.
Although it might be considered an old-fashioned value, life during 50s is not out, is full of precious and happier moments. A slower pace of life, valuable beliefs, all these were the common values of that decade.

Retro Fashion Trends In 60s Italy

Being fascinated by the retro fashion in different parts of the world, I went on an “online backtime trip” to Italy and discovered that Italian women were very stylish, elegant, classy during the 60s.

Daily outfits were made up from elegant pieces, the intense colours, fine cuts, and quality fabrics. Some of the most famous designers of that period are Biba, Pierre Cardin, André Courrèges – the creator of “mini skirt”, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Pucci, Pacco Rabanne, Ossie Clark—who dressed celebrities like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Twiggy, Liza Minnell, and Talitha Getty.
